19. maj 12.00 – 13.00 Jonas Toubøl and Ditte Andersen

Paper title: "Imposed volunteering: Gender and caring responsibilities during the COVID-19 lockdown"

The pandemic produced needs so suddenly that people took on new caring responsibilities in a conscious rather than habitual way, and this can help shed light on the slow, subtle processes that ordinarily transform publicly paid care work into unpaid care work provided by volunteers.

The paper investigates the gender distribution of unpaid care work carried out by volunteers during the COVID-19 lockdown in Denmark in 2020.

Jonas Toubøl is Postdoc at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Sociology

Ditte Andersen is a Senior Researcher from VIVE
