EXCHANGE BETWEEN CHINA AND DENMARK

Gender Dynamics in the 21st century. Exchanges between China and Denmark. International Summer-school, University of Copenhagen.

The summer-school was arranged in relation to the research workshop with one week at University of Copenhagen and one week in Beijing, and attracted a small, but dedicated group of students from University of Copenhagen and China.

”Gender Dynamics: China/Denmark was a great opportunity to get beyond the Great Wall and see how institutions, researchers and NGO’s work with gendered challenges in China today. The summer course did not only provide us with a comprehensive introduction to contemporary gender and feminist issues, but gave us a real life experience of Chinese academic traditions and customs. Throughout the course we met with the leading organizers of some of the central players in family planning, reproductive health, gender-research and LGBT-organizers and exchanged thoughts and critiques - in the classroom as well as over informal dinners. All in all opportunities that would have been almost impossible had it not been for the exchange between University of Copenhagen and Peking University. I will recommend everyone to take advantage of the broad range of summer courses that are offered at KU and meet other students and faculty members across boundaries, countries, faculties and interests.” (Tinne Steffensen, Student,  Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen)

"In my opinion, gender dynamics is a fantastic course and very thought provoking. I have thoroughly enjoyed the several weeks I spent in Copenhagen and Beijing. The lectures are all fun and informative, and so as all the institution visits in Beijing, such as LGBT centre and All-China's Women Federation. It has revealed a face of China that I am not even fully aware of. And the dynamics within the group also has created a friendly atmosphere for students to exchange ideas and knowledge gained. As a Chinese student, one of the most valuable things that I've gained from the course is the 'fresh eyes' that the locals ususally don't have. By looking into various questions posed by my Danish classmates, I found lots of phenomena that i used to take for granted interesting. And I believe this will further deepen my understandings on my own study in the future." (Can Can Wang, MA student, Asian Studies, University of Copenhagen)
